At Fillmore East is the first live album by American rock band the Allman Brothers Band, and their third release overall. Produced by Tom Dowd, the album was released in July 1971 in the United States by Capricorn Records. As the title indicates, the recording took place at the New York City music venue Fillmore East, which was run by concert promoter Bill Graham

Three months after the album's release in July 1971, Duane died in a motorcycle accident that forever altered the group's course in history. They'd go on to score a hit single, a No. 1 album, breakups, disillusionment and a legacy as one of the world's premier jam bands. The original album was comprised of seven songs spanning four sides and 76 minutes, pulled from the March 1971 dates. On the six-CD 'The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings,' the running time is stretched to more than six hours, and the set now includes 35 songs, 15 of them previously unreleased. It also now includes the Allmans' return performance in June that year, when the band was picked by the Fillmore's Bill Graham to play at the famous venue's closing show.

Two months before recording their historic album "At Fillmore East," the Allman Brothers Band performed three nights at the Fillmore West.

Universal Music Enterprises and Mercury Records to Release The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Band’s Historic 1971 Performances At Bill Graham’s Iconic New York City Venue. The Allman Brothers Band’s cornerstone LP, At Fillmore East, compiled from the four sets recorded on the weekend of March 12-13, 1971, has been expanded, stretching over six CDs with fifteen unreleased tracks. Additionally, The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings contains the complete June 27 performance during the iconic venue’s final weekend, after the band was handpicked by impresario Bill Graham to headline closing night.

The Allman Brothers Band’s 1971 double album At Fillmore East is often and quite rightly proclaimed as rock’s greatest live release. It still sounds completely fresh, totally inspired and utterly original. It is the gold standard of blues-based rock’n’roll. After 45 years of such praise, it’s easy to lose sight of what a radical album At Fillmore East really was. It took a lot of guts for the band and their record label to put out a two-LP live album as their third release. The first two weeks of September 1971, just before At Fillmore East was released, provide a snapshot of the band’s gruelling schedule: they played Montreal on September 3 and Miami the following night. They had five days off, when they went into Miami’s Criteria Studios with Dowd and laid down the first tracks for Betts’ Blue Sky, which would appear on their next studio album, Eat A Peach.

OK, the Allman Brothers Band, was the simple introduction for the band on Friday 12 March 1971 at the Fillmore East in New York’s East Village. Duane’s slide guitar sets off and the sound of Blind Willie McTell’s ‘Statesboro Blues’ begins what is arguably the greatest live album in rock. At Fillmore East was originally a double LP, recorded over both the Friday and Saturday night’s shows and captured the Allman Brothers at the peak of their powers
