Tycho Awake Tychos Brand New Album Awake released March 18, 2014. Published on: Friday, March 21, 2014. Tycho's Brand New Album "Awake" released March 18, 2014. Tracklist: 1.

Awake is the album where Scott Hansen, the San Francisco-based visual artist and musician who records as Tycho, expands into a far-reaching space. He's made gorgeously constructed techno under this name for over a decade, ultimately gaining traction with the sunny Dive in 2011.

The Bay Area producer’s fourth album Awake mixes layered guitar strum, electric bass, and electronic wash with beats that are chilled-out but emphatic too. The panoramic title track starts the show in a melancholy mood that soon progresses toward brightness ( Montana ) and, in time, drifting serenity ( Dye ). Low-lit grooves meet high drama in the swooshing, swirling ambient-ish music of Tycho. The Bay Area producer’s fourth album Awake mixes layered guitar strum, electric bass, and electronic wash with beats that are chilled-out but emphatic too. Tycho - Awake (Ghostly)I hit red at a stoplight several weeks ago with Awake on in the car. I noticed a cute, shaggy haired couple hugging and holding hands at the cross walk.

Tycho – Awake Album Artwork. Posted by Scott 12/17/13. As you may have noticed I haven’t been very active on the blog over the past year. This is because I had decided to focus solely on my music project, Tycho for a while. This design was mean to be a flag; more of a symbol than what I would think of as traditional album art. I felt that, with physical mediums disappearing, album art didn’t necessarily have to fit a given format and I wanted something that could be readily transported. If you look at earlier artwork you’ll see that I was pursuing a more maximalist, photographic direction for Tycho (.

Both this one and Dive Ltd Green are still available from newbury : https://www.newburycomics.com/products/tycho-awake_exclusive_lp?variant=21342739824745

I bought both limited edition Tycho vinyls (Drive - Green Clear & Awake - Purple) from Newbury Comics, last week, and I'm loving them both! The pressings are perfect too. No snaps, crackles or pops!
  • Anicasalar
Is anyone else's copy bowled or warped? Mine plays without skipping but it's pretty annoying, as its' clearly a defect.
  • Ziena
Super warped, just getting around to opening it and cleaning it today too. Guess I need to stop back logging.
  • watching to future
Yep - mine also has the hump in the center.Looks terrible when spinning, but does not affect playback.
  • Eng.Men
I did notice that only the center of Side A bows up a bit. I can push down center of Side A and it moves down a bit but it seems to lay completely flat on Side B. It doesn't affect the quality or anything. At least not for me.
  • Lyrtois
shoot... now I suppose I should go home and open it to check!
  • Beydar
Mine is still in its original parcel with iso50's sticker on cardboard. It was a preorder. It's one of the 500 limited bundles including the tote bag, tee size M, poster and beige vinyl. Of course this is sealed as I've never bothered peeling the tape from the parcel. And I also still have the invoice. Pretty sure it was a good idea for a future sale.

I'm confused as to which pressing I own. I bought my copy of Awake (plain black) at a Tycho headline show in Sydney, January 2015.My Matrix / Runouts for Sides A & B are as follows:114778E1/B (Side A)114778E2/B (Side B)I don't have the shrinkwrap anymore so I can't identify it by barcode but does anyone else have the same matrix runout and can identify which copy they have.
  • Akinozuru
I don’t have the barcode as it was on the shrinkwrap I’m sure. I think our copies are a newer pressing so we should add a new release.
  • Mushicage
I just purchased mine and the runouts match yours/this listing, but the barcode is 8 0429782081 1. I looked through the other regular vinyl releases and couldn't find one with a barcode that matches mine.

I have the same experience as foxorian. Incredibly high noise floor, as in white noise. Awake, Montana, and Plains have an especially difficult time tracking as well.My other Tycho records I got in the same package (straight from his website) play great. Hopefully this is just a bad pressing; I've been going nuts trying to figure out what's wrong with my turntable! But moving past the (hopefully) bad pressing here, this is has gotta be one of my top 5 all time favorite albums. (I've been listening to the FLAC's)

The Ghostly release is an excellent pressing. If you were to have somebody listen to this blind they probably wouldn't believe it's on vinyl. No pops and no hisses, even in the silence between tracks. Nice heavyweight vinyl and it was cheap too, only about $18 new from the record store If I remember correctly.Excellent pressing quality aside, this is a really nice album. Upbeat and interesting but at the same time chilled-out and not obnoxious if you put it on as background music. Kind of good to put on wen you don't know what else to listen to.

Looking for a signed version Mint/Mint condition:D so feel free to PM me

Tycho has some of the best design for album art ever. Too bad I couldn't get the beige vinyl release, but ah well. Oddly my copy has usually high surface noise -- easily the loudest record I own. Still easily listenable, though. Worth getting.
  • Thorgahuginn
Top notch mastering and pressing.
  • Quemal
The pressing by Ghostly is great. The album is wonderful. "L" is my favorite track on it with the synth in the opening, combined with the build-up. It creates a stunning atmosphere. My first introduction to Tycho was through a friend. Like most people I hear the Ulrich Schnauss style. I don't like a lot of Shoegaze-y stuff. But Hansen's use of that, combined with Post Rock and Ambient elements is some of the most melodic music I've ever heard.
  • Wyameluna
Great pressing! No surface noise or problems.
  • Truthcliff
A near perfect pressing, with no imperfections except for a single pop during 'L' on the A side. Otherwise a very nice pressing with excellently made sleeves.

is called Awake or DIve again?....the bass lines in most songs you can relate them to the previous album....nice album but there isnt much to discover i think.

This release had got a lot of hype. I have been meaning to write a review about this since I got it a few months ago. About 2 years ago I heard my first track off the last album and I was generally pleased with the sounds and bookmarked Tycho to check out. And yes you get the usual comparisons like Ulrich Schnauss who basically took pop structure into idm around the turn of the century in Far Away Passing Trains release. And they are warranted. Similar. A touch more jam bandish like it's an instrumental band with electronic music leading the way. The artwork and the packaging is great. Running a theme with the previous album. How is the music you may ask? It's 3 stars out of 5. Everything is catchy but nothing really stands out or is really that memorable. No parts are really drawn out and expanded on. Everything is nice and compact. But there is nothing to get lost in. Not even clocking in more than 40 minutes...proof is in the pudding. It's just ok. Just not enough depth for serious music fans. I hate to knock the hype but it's kind of a disappointment really.

I would tend to agree with your assessment- slightly disappointing is the right indictment here. I first discovered Tycho nearly ten years-ago with his release of Past is Prologue/Sunrise Projector. Scott/Tycho immediately became one of my favorite new artists to come across my listening waves in some time. And I still feel that way without question; they've found a place in my Top Ten of all time. I think what happens to so many bands happened here as well. The hype machine applied too much pressure to the creative process. A lot of things changed with Tycho between the time of the early releases where Scott was the be all, end all of the entire process. Just look at how much time passed between the release of the early efforts- Scott really took his time creating and perfecting his craft. Was fortunate enough to catch Tycho as Scott by himself before he released Dive and before they evolved into a three-piece live band. Awake sadly defaults into a rather monochromatic sound scape that makes for a nice back drop as opposed to an engaging listen. Dare I say this nearly becomes boring at times, without ever being exhausting. This sounds like an album that was written (rather quickly) to be performed by live acoustic instruments. Just go back and listen to the likes of The Disconnect or Dictaphone's Lament, which draw you in with some of the most warm and delicious synth sounds arranged to carry you along with its ride. I know there has always been comparisons to Board of Canada, which I also am a big fan of, though I find them both occupying their own unique space. Awake certainly is not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I'll certain take this as a listen over many other options that slide into that electronica/IDM zone.

And which bands could have the "real" depth in comparison for us, music fans?
  • WtePSeLNaGAyko
Have one with signatures of all band guys

This pressing from Ghostly International is of fantastic quality. The record is nice and thick and had zero side-to-side slop with perfectly centered labels and no warping. The jacket is equally good with both the record and inner sleeve sliding in and out smoothly. The album itself makes a fantastic companion to Dive, both expanding and in some ways improving upon Scott Hansen's previous masterpiece. This album features a strong post-rock influence mixed with heady bass lines.
  • Goltikree
This is one of the best albums of 2014 already and I have a feeling it will stay there. Such an immersive experience. If you have a chance to buy this album, please, PLEASE do.
  • Hanelynai
Really good set by Tycho. This EP sounds like all his/their previous works mixed together and then improved. It is very bubbly and bright while remaining somewhat slow and really ambient too. I really like the fact that most of the mix is live recorded instruments. This limited release has the same jacket and sleeve as standard, but the vinyl is a creamy light beige color.
  • TheFresh
I added this to my collection this morning and saw it selling for 12$...now it's up to 43$

Ulrich Schnauss-y...
