I didn't care for it much when I first heard it, preferring DSotM and Animals, but now I absolutely love the album. Still love Animals and DSotM as much, if not more now, but Meddle has risen above the other albums faster than any other album I've grown to love. 17 Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd. Or why Pink Floyd became a phenomenon that has affected every generation since. The answer is that they have made some of the most amazing, most singular music in rock. The culmination of Pink Floyd’s endeavours through the 70s, The Wall is a dense double-album diatribe on isolation, indoctrination, society and the bastards who try to control us. From the bombastic, opening In The Flesh to the surprisingly anti-climactic Outside The Wall the plot is peppered with metaphors, flashbacks, nightmares and dreams.

The compilation spans the career of Pink Floyd from their first single Arnold Layne in 1967, through to High Hopes, the final track from their 1994 studio album The Division Bell. Four of their albums-More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother and Obscured by Clouds-are not represented whatsoever, though multiple tracks from Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma were planned to appear on the compilation. Each of the 26 tracks fades from one to the next with no break in the music, courtesy of longtime producer/engineer James Guthrie, to help recreate the concept album feel of the band’s mid-period work.
