Kana Kassy "Ali and Toumani doesn't pick up quite where In the Heart of the Moon left off. First time round, the two men were improvising in a makeshift facility in Bamako, Mali. Ali and Toumani was cut in a London studio in 2005; Diabaté and Gold sprung the recording session on Touré, whose bone cancer was advancing.

This is confirmed by Ali Farka himself as he announces 'Samba Geladio' before they play it on the recording. The track listing on the other vinyl version of the album is correct.

In 2005, the late guitarist Ali Farka Touré and the kora player Toumani Diabaté released In the Heart of the Moon, which went on to win a GRAMMY® Award. It turns out that the two Malian musicians got together to record more tracks after the success of their duo debut; 2010’s excellent (and finely produced) Ali & Toumani draws from those sessions. The pair provides a feast of plucked tones and entrancing rhythms, and at times they are accompanied by the late Cuban bassist Orlando Cachaíto Lopez, backing vocals and percussion

The second and last album pairing guitar virtuoso Ali Farka Touré and kora master Toumani Diabaté, Ali and Toumani won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album. Recorded in 2005, with contributions from Cachaíto López on bass, the album is the successor to the Grammy-winning In the Heart of the Moon and is the last recorded by both Touré and López. Pitchfork says it's "uncommonly beautiful. NPR calls it "breathtaking. uk/Ali-Farka-Toure. 42617074&sr 1-1. Visit World Circuit Records: ww. orldcircuit.

Ali Farka Touré died in 2006. He lived a long and productive life, giving a great deal of marvelous recorded music to the world, seeking ways to bridge the regional musical traditions of his homeland, Mali, and developing a guitar style all his own. He recorded only a few times in the final years of his life, having retired to become the mayor of his hometown, Niafunké- he used his own money to improve the roads and sewage system, and fueled the town's generator as well

The clanging electric blues of Ali Farka Toure and the rippling kora of Toumani Diabate have been complementary forces throughout Mali’s campaign to be heard.
