Rainbow (stylized as RINBOW) is the fifth studio album by Japanese recording artist Ayumi Hamasaki, released on 18 December 2002 by Avex Trax that January; All lyrics were written by Hamasaki, and Japanese producer Max Matsuura returned to produce the album. The album was Hamasaki's first to feature conversational English lyrics, where in her previous works she had only used single words.

Rainbow (Ayumi Hamasaki album). Rainbow (stylized as R. INBOW) is the fifth studio album by Japanese recording artist Ayumi Hamasaki, released on 18 December 2002 by Avex Trax that January; All lyrics were written by Hamasaki, and Japanese producer Max Matsuura returned to produce the album. This was the first time I had ever written a song from this viewpoint, and I even surprised myself! (Laughs) The lyrics to the tracks from Rainbow are written by Hamasaki, Hamasaki performed for the first time outside Japan at the 2002 MTV Asia Music Awards in Singapore.

RAINBOW is Hamasaki Ayumi's fifth full-length album. Fans were asked to send keywords and thoughts on the clip, which Hamasaki used as inspiration for the song lyrics. The completed song was released on the A BALLADS compilation several months later

Each song coincides with each other, making smooth transitions between. Each of the fifteen tracks on the seventy-one minute epic combine nicely to form one unique and beautiful piece of art. It establishes itself as more of a journey than just an album with a bunch of singles on it, something that many artists fail at miserably. Overall, even with its non-shining moments, Ayumi Hamasaki’s Rainbow is still a very decent album. It has some low points, but it has some high points as well. I’d recommend this album to anyone interested in exploring the J-pop genre, though I must mention that Rainbow is not entirely representative of typical J-pop.

Before she was a megastar, Ayumi Hamasaki was still a formidable star in the cosmos of Japanese pop. Rainbow came after a string of high-charting albums, itself not reaching the same heights thanks to some interesting but uneven experimentation with her sound. The album opens with some light ambient introductions before going into an energetic bit of stereotypical J-pop drama in "We Wish.
