Anenon is Brian Allen Simon, an electronic producer and saxophone player, and his third album Petrol is a major step forward for him. It's a portrait of his native Los Angeles, and the setting is somewhere just past sundown, the sky steadily leeched of color as lines of cars streak toward the horizon. Anenon's Petrol is bookended by the sounds of freeway noise, so you don't have to look very far to find the meaning behind the title. But it's fortuitous that the album, with its viscous, reverberant swirls of reeds and violin, has the same dusky resonance as the color.
Anenon - Petrol Petrol, the third full-length by Brian Allen Simon (AKA Anenon), is a 40-minute homage to the artist's hometown of Los Angeles. It's concerned with the "beauty of distance," the contrast of LA's urban sprawl and intimate pockets of personal space. The album's dynamic push and pull builds a strong narrative, traveling across emotional arcs and into moments of self-reflection. Petrol is about how the geography of Los Angeles has affected Simon as an artist.

☆½ ~ I think this is a good/enjoyable album overall, but at the same time many passages are kinda irregular or simply boring. Or consider a donation?
