Based in Vatican City, it normally comprises twenty men (tenors and basses) and thirty boys (sopranos and altos), the latter receiving free tuition. On 19 January 2019, Pope Francis transferred responsibility for the Choir from the Papal household to the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff.
