Album: Explores Your Mind (1974). Translations: Arabic, German. A A. Take Me To the River. I don't know why I love you like I do. After all these changes that you put me through. Till I can't, till I can't, can't take no more. After all the things that you put me through. The sixteen candles are burning on my wall. Turning me into the biggest fool of them all. I wanna know, can't you tell me. Am I in love to stay? I wanna know. Want you to dip me in the water. Won't you wash me in the water? Wash me in the water. Wash me in the water. Won't you wash me in the water? Feeling good.
As this two-CD best-of draws wholly from Green's prime as a Hi artist, and, as it contains almost everything from his Greatest Hits collection, one might reasonably assume that it's a good investment for those looking for a greatest hits anthology that's deeper than the single-disc Greatest Hits. Generally that's true, but there are some shortcomings to the packaging that might give you pause

Al Green Lyrics - Take Me To The River : I don't know why I love you like I do After all these changes you put me through You stole my money. I wanna know Won't you tell me Am I in love to stay? Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. Take me to the river And wash me down Won't you cleanse my soul. Put my feet on the ground. Hold me, love me, please me, tease me Till I can't, till I can't take no more Take me to the river. I don't know why I love you like I do After all these changes you put me through The sixteen candles burning on my wall Turning me into the biggest fool of them all. I wanna know Oh won't.

Am I in love to stay? Take me to the river, drop me in the water Dip me in the river, drop me in the water Washing me down, washing me down Ooh, -ya-ya. The new wave band Talking Heads covered this song, originally done by Al Green, in 1978 and it reached on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. We played it live in the studio, bass player Tina Weymouth remembered. It sounded so great when we played it back that we immediately imposed a rule on ourselves – no additional playing, except single notes. Just one ping or bop or pang. The Talking Heads version endured on Classic Rock radio; many listeners had no idea it was a cover song. Take Me to the River" Track Info. Written By Mabon Teenie Hodges & Al Green.
