Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (alternately Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) were an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. Formed in 1976, the band originally comprised Tom Petty (lead singer, guitar), Mike Campbell (lead guitarist), Ron Blair (bass guitar), Stan Lynch (drums), and Benmont Tench (keyboards). In 1981, Blair, weary of the touring lifestyle, departed the band.

You’re Gonna Get It! Petty’s achievement is all the more remarkable because he’s basically working in a mainstream style, mining the obsessions and quirks beneath the sentimental conventions of Seventies pop. B. Overall, the current LP boasts an impressive stylistic cohesiveness with its predecessor, but what makes the album exciting are the fresh hints of openness and expansion just beneath the surface. The rhythms are a bit looser, and there’s a new emphasis on Petty’s rough, driving, rock & roll guitar in the mix. Some of the cuts have a Latinized swing, and you can hear bits and pieces of outlaw grit, urban blues and Los Angeles harmonies everywhere. The slippery, layered textures of sound that occasionally seemed mannered on the first record are completely under control here.

You're gonna get it babe I should have quit it babe, but you look so good Yeah you do you do you do you do I kept thinking something might change but I was just a fool. Go on, go to somebody else like you do it to me I don't want you, can't crawl I can't crawl any further You never crawled for me. (Chorus). You're gonna get it babe. You're Gonna Get It" Track Info. Written By Tom Petty.

Album · 1978 · 10 Songs. The Heartbreakers’ early years were a time of hard work and struggle for young musicians who’d shown great potential with their self-titled debut album and the radio-friendly hits American Girl and Breakdown. Yet their label wasn’t the most powerful, and plenty of other bands' careers had gone kaput after a few catchy singles. Tom Petty clearly had talent, but breaking through to audiences in a lasting way was always a great wonder in terms of how it happens.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers didn't really knock out their second album - it was released two years after their debut - but it sure sounds as if they did. There are some wonderful moments on this record, but it often feels like leftovers from a strong debut, or an album written on the road, especially since the music is simply an extension of the first album. That said, when You're Gonna Get It! works, it devastates

Does any one know why the label says 1973 in the bottom arch on this MCA Coral version? Is this a misprint?
